Schedule Instagram Posts With an API Built for Teams and AI Agents

Updated 2026-09-27

Teams schedule Instagram posts to keep a feed active without publishing manually every day, and to plan campaigns further ahead than a single sitting allows. IMMA AI lets a team schedule Instagram feed posts, Reels, Stories and carousels from one dashboard, or queue the same posts through an API for an AI agent, checking Instagram's own posting limits first.

Can you schedule posts on Instagram?

Yes. IMMA AI's Instagram scheduler works through Instagram's own Content Publishing API, using the instagram_business_content_publish permission, so a scheduled post publishes directly to the account rather than relying on a phone-based reminder or a third-party posting trick that risks the account. A team picks a date and time in the dashboard calendar, or an API call includes a scheduled_at timestamp, and IMMA AI queues the post for that moment, displayed and stored in the time zone set at the workspace level so a team spread across cities still schedules against one shared calendar. Feed posts, Reels, Stories and carousels are all supported, and a carousel counts as a single post against Instagram's rate limit no matter how many images or videos it contains, up to Instagram's own 10 item limit per carousel, with each image required to be JPEG served from a public URL.

How do you schedule a post to Instagram via API?

A developer or AI agent sends a caption, one or more media URLs, and a target time to POST /v1/posts (or the equivalent MCP create_post tool), with instagram as the target platform, and the API is currently in preview. IMMA AI validates the media against Instagram's requirements, for example that carousel images are JPEG and served from a public URL, before accepting the request, so a malformed request fails at queue time with a specific error rather than failing silently when the scheduled time arrives. Because Instagram publishing does not require the extra human approval step TikTok does, a scheduled Instagram post publishes automatically at its scheduled time once queued, and the API response includes the live post URL as soon as it goes out, plus a webhook for systems that need to react to it.

What happens if a scheduled Instagram post fails?

A scheduled Instagram post can fail for a few specific reasons, and IMMA AI surfaces the real one instead of a generic error. The most common cause is a quota limit: Instagram allows 100 posts per account through the API in a rolling 24 hour window, so a busy account that already used its quota gets a quota_exceeded result rather than a silent skip. Other causes include an access token that expired because the account was not reauthorized in time, a media file that no longer resolves at its public URL, or a carousel that exceeds Instagram's 10 item limit. Every failed attempt is recorded with its error code and shown in the post's detail view alongside a Retry action, so a team can fix the issue, for example reconnecting the account, and requeue the same post without rebuilding it.

How it works

Instagram scheduling is one part of IMMA AI's wider social media API: posts can be scheduled from the dashboard calendar, the REST API, or an AI agent through MCP, and every post is checked against Instagram's limits before it is queued.
